Good day parents and juniors! First off we hope that all of you are coping with this new time in our world. Take advantage of the time with family to make some very unique memories.
After discussions with FireRock Golf Club and Oxbow Glen Golf Course, we have finalized details for the 2020 golf season. We have been able to alter our programs to ensure the safety and enjoyment of juniors. We believe with the uncertainty around other activities that this will be a very busy and successful season.
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions to review.
How have you been able to implement government standards and recommendations around the game of golf?
We have been able to setup the training areas to allow for social distancing practices. Any equipment used by more than one junior will be cleaned during the class between juniors. All equipment will be sanitized between sessions. Additionally, click here to view all the COVID-19 policies at FireRock Golf Club. PPE masks are also for sale in the FireRock pro shop.
Our recommendation: each junior have his/her own hand sanitizer. PPE is a your personal choice made by an individual or family.
In terms of coaches, what has been provided to the coaches and the qualifications of the coaches?
Our coaches are kept up to date with the government guidelines around the game of golf. All our coaches are trained by the PGA of Canada as a PGA Professional or a Golf Community Coach. We have confidence that each and every coach has his / her own style and shows his / her passion for helping the juniors. Programs are designed by our entire coaching staff, not just Coach Brian.
Our recommendation: We will provide an outstanding environment that allows juniors to discover the game of movement and golf.
Will each junior require his/her own equipment?
Based on the government standards at this time, there is no sharing of golf equipment. Therefore, each junior will require a set of clubs.
Our recommendation: our program has an inventory of used sets as well as can assist with the purchase of a new set, if required, at a great value.
In the past, juniors have been fitted on the first night of a program. Will this be the same?
All juniors will be measured and fit for clubs IN ADVANCE of all programs.
Our recommendation: Club fitting will occur at our indoor location at 711 Oxford Street West Unit B in London, ON. Please bring your current clubs if applicable.
Option #1 – Thursday May 28th from 4 PM to 7 PM
Option #2 – Saturday May 30th from 10 AM to Noon
In the past, golf carts have been used during the programs to transport the juniors as well as snacks and water. Is this continuing?
Juniors will be expected to walk on the golf course during Learn to Golf, Junior League and Summer Golf Camp programs. Juniors will need to be able to either carry his/her clubs or use a pull cart. Please be advise that the golf courses likely will not have pull carts available so to plan ahead.
Our recommendation: juniors should plan on carrying his/her own clubs or provide a personal pull cart. Juniors should also be able to have snacks and water stored in his/her golf bag.
For 2020, what are the program additions and changes from the past?
NEW ADDITION – the Future Player Program: this will be the leading program for years to come. It provides juniors with a membership at Oxbow Glen Golf Course to use outside of our program.
ALTERED: the Learn to Golf program: this program used to be a weekly program that only had practices at FireRock. After discussions with the juniors, we have decided to lead the way and provide a program that combines practices along with session on course where a coach will go on course with juniors to assist with the discovery of playing the game.
ALTERED: the Junior League program: now an opportunity for juniors to play the game with other juniors without any coaching. We are excited with this change to help juniors discover the game together. We will have a junior league coordinator onsite to ensure the day goes smoothly.
